When the publisher delivered us the first copy of The Beekman 1802 Heirloom Cookbook to come off the presses, we knew that we wanted to keep it in mint condition, so we asked a local craftsmen to create an archival box to preserve No. 1

The hand-constructed box was so beautiful, we knew that it could have other uses, too.

What better way to preserve love letters, hand-written recipe cards or other personal collections than in an elegant archival box?

Our B. 1802 Archival clamshell book box, is handmade by Anonymous Bookbinder in Sharon Springs, NY.  His archival boxes are used in museums and libraries around the world.

The box is constructed of archival millboard manufactured in Bedfordshire, England using 100% recycled acid & lignin free paper products. The tray construction is double walled with step-jointed corners for added strength. The box is covered with Van Heek Commodore linen bookcloth imported from the Netherlands. The lining paper is 80 lb. Mohawk Superfine, an archival quality commercial paper, over a tray infill of 250 gsm Stonehenge cotton rag paper.

Each box measures 10 x 9 inches and is 2 inches deep.

To customize your box, an optional leather label can be made-to-order by the craftsmen.  Labels are foil stamped with hand-set type.   Up to three lines with 10 characters per line
