Being a small farmer is a tough job, why do you do it?: Our parents started making cheese to keep our dairy farm viable. We quickly realized the demand for good local cheese and one by one our family moved home to help grow the business. Getting to work all together after living far apart (in different states - WA, HI, and SD) is a gift unto itself, and the positive feedback we get from our customers is a huge reason for us to keep going. Add in the creativity and freedom of the job and the pride of being a part of the local, healthy food movement and you can see why we are happy to get up and go to work everyday.
When was the last time you took a vacation?: Since there are three of us kids and one brother-in-law currently working, we can cover each other enough to take occasional short trips. However, someone always has to be here worrying about how to get everything done- including making, brining, and aging cheese; packaging cheese for sale; working farmer's markets and summer festivals; and making deliveries on top of running the the business itself. We generally can only take substantial vacations in the winter season when the goats go dry and the farmer's markets slow down. It's a shame to miss out on the glorious summer weather, but summer is a very busy time for us!
