Hops Harvesting - August 26th, 2017
This variant is currently sold out.
Did you know that central NY was once one of the largest producers of hops in the world? Well-heeled city folk would visit the region to help with the hops harvest and participate in a dance at the end of each week called ‘The Harvest Hop’—the origin of “let’s go to the hop”
Now you can participate in the harvest of hops the old fashioned way, too.
Come and visit one of our neighbors, Conrad, who is growing his own hops! You will hear about the history of hops in this area, what variety he grows and what he finds exciting about growing hops in Sharon Springs.
After Conrad talks about his hops, you can help him hand harvest some of his vines. After the harvesting, we will provide a grilled lunch in the shade of his pine trees. Anyone over 21 can then enjoy a tasting of a cold brew from a brewery he sells his hops to!
A Shuttle bus from the Mercantile to the farm will be provided and there will be some walking around the hop fields, so please dress accordingly.
