Rabbit Goody Weaving Experience February 17th & 18th 2018
A weekend intensive weaving class with the country’s premiere historic weaver.
Rabbit Goody of Thistle Hill Weavers was one of the original B. 1802 artisans and has woven fabrics for Steven Spielberg movies, fashion houses Chanel and Givenchy, and museums around the world. As well-known as she has become, she got her start 40 years ago hand-weaving scarves for luxury department stores like Saks and Henri Bendel, and now you can learn to weave your own scarf in a small class setting with individual instruction from Rabbit.
In this two-day class, you will learn and perform the complete process from warping the yarn, to setting up the loom to weaving and finishing the fabric. At the end of the two days each participant will have a silk scarf that they have woven themselves.
Tucked in the middle of the woods outside of Sharon Springs, Thistle Hill Weavers is a veritable living museum of weaving throughout the centuries. Antique mechanical looms still produce some of the world’s most unique luxury fabrics. Class participants will enjoy the social atmosphere of Rabbit’s factory-studio, and experience the meditative nature of hand-weaving on their own looms. Lunch is provided both days and the studio will remain open around the clock so that participants can work at their own pace to complete their project. It’ll be a weekend to remember for many years.
